How to add a watermark to a PDF
- Press “Select PDF file” and choose the PDF.
- Type the watermark text. Short text such as “DRAFT” or “For bank use only” is drawn larger.
- Choose the direction (diagonal or horizontal) and the strength (light, medium or strong).
- Press “Add watermark”. The PDF downloads with the watermark on every page.
When it helps
Use it to mark a quote or proposal as confidential before sending it out, to write “For X application only” across a copy of your ID or bank statement so it cannot be reused elsewhere, or to label a document under review as a draft. Writing the purpose and date on an ID copy is a simple way to limit misuse.
The watermark is grey text in the centre of the page, laid over the content with transparency so the page stays readable. Its size adjusts to the length of the text.
Why non-Latin text works
Writing Korean, Japanese or Chinese text directly into a PDF requires embedding a font file, which is why many free tools only support Latin watermarks. This tool first draws the text as a picture in your browser and then places that picture on each page, so any character your device can display is kept.
The documents that need a watermark are usually the sensitive ones, and uploading them to add it would defeat the purpose. Here every step runs on your device.
What to write
On copies of IDs and bank statements, write the recipient, purpose and date, for example “For ABC Bank loan review, 9 Oct 2026”. If the copy turns up elsewhere you know where it came from, and it is harder to reuse. Internal papers often carry “CONFIDENTIAL” or “INTERNAL ONLY”, documents under review “DRAFT”, and duplicates “COPY”. Longer text is drawn smaller, so about 10 to 20 characters looks best.
Good to know
- The watermark is a picture, so it cannot be selected or searched as text.
- A watermark is a notice, not protection. It can be removed with a PDF editor, so do not rely on it to prevent copying.
- Existing text stays selectable and quality is unchanged. Password-protected PDFs cannot be opened.

Yes. The text is drawn as a picture, so Korean, Chinese, Japanese and other scripts are kept.
Can I move the watermark?
It is always centred. You can choose the direction and the strength.
Can I remove the watermark later?
This tool cannot remove it. The original file is not overwritten, so keep it.
Is the file uploaded?
No. It is processed in your browser.
